Moon Names

This month, the full moon fall on November 17. I’ve discovered that every full moon has a name, depending on when it happens during the year. Native Americans first gave names to these moons, and European settlers often picked those names up, or adapted them for their own purposes. Here is a list of the months of the year, and the name the full moon has been given:

November – Beaver Moon
December – Cold Moon
January – Wolf Moon
February – Snow Moon
March – Worm Moon
April – Pink Moon
May – Flower Moon
June – Strawberry Moon
July – Buck Moon
August – Sturgeon Moon
September – Harvest Moon
October – Hunter’s Moon

If there’s a second full moon in a month it is called a Blue moon. This typically happens about once a year.
