Winter Meditation #9 – Explore!

With Spring just around the corner, it’s time to remind ourselves, as we plan our escapades for the warmer months of the year, that it is still possible to be an explorer! We may not be the first to visit some natural, or civilized, place but if it is new to us – we are exploring!~

Get out there! Explore a place unknown to you. Maybe it’s your back yard! Maybe it’s a neighborhood park. Maybe it’s Oxley Nature Center or Redbud Valley right here in Tulsa. Maybe it’s Reed Park, or the River Parks. I hope today’s post encourages you to Explore!

Here’s what Alfred, Lord Tennyson had to say about exploration in his poem, “Ulysses”:

“Come, my friends,
Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles whom we
knew. Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are —
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

Today, consider what it is you need or want to explore!
