“They” are out there and they need something to eat!
Remember the song, “Feed the Birds” from Mary Poppins? Maybe you are too young to remember, but in that movie or Broadway play, there was a bird lady who fed the pigeon’s in one of London’s popular squares. You could buy a bag of seeds for tuppence. (What’s that worth in Euros?)
Birds of different species eat different things. Here’s a list of some of the those foods and the common varieties of birds which eat them.
Sunflower Seeds – Blue jay, cardinal, chickadee, finch, goldfinch, junco, mourning dove, nuthatch, sparrow, titmouse
Millet – Cardinal, chickadee, duck, finch, junco, mourning dove, nuthatch, sparrow, titmouse, towhee
Niger (Thistle Seeds) – Finch, goldfinch, junco
Corn, cracked – Blue jay, cardinal, chickadee, duck, finch, goose, junco, mourning dove, pheasant, sparrow, titmouse
Corn, whole – Blue jay, duck, goose, mourning dove
Peanuts – Blue jay, chickadee, finch, flicker, mourning dove, nuthatch, sparrow, thrasher, titmouse, warbler, woodpecker
Peanut Butter – Chickadee, finch, flicker, nuthatch, titmouse, woodpecker
Suet – Chickadee, flicker, nuthatch, titmouse, woodpecker
Raisins – Blue jay, cardinal, catbird, mockingbird, thrasher, thrush
